I firmly believe this chip is defective as many defective chips of other kind too, that are allowed tio be in the market - we had same problems with many Laptop GPUs as well and nothing happened and people lost money thanks to this. Then I played around a bit 'not thinking' about this cam and then started to chase some galaxies to see how good it is - well all went dark, the cam losing sensitivity. So, last night I started to play with The Moon initially for about 1H 30m and then stopped or a bit and went to Jupiter to test an old SCT and it was not that clear as I would have expected - even thou the weather was good as I could see Jupiter better than usual by eye and thought - yes, I am going to get Jupiter nailed tonight! Last 2 times, I finally noticed it and and a week ago session was great in taking the Moon and then started to loose sensitivity - but was clouding over and that what 'tricked' me into not seeing the camera is actually faulty!ĩ5% of the time I often switched to a DSLR after about 2 hours and other times I stopped session because I thought the seeing was getting worse - NOOOO - the camera was getting hot - with the fan ON! I personally believe the chip 'normally' overheats. I happened to have found that his camera - although great - is defective! I purchased it last October and used it little, but I happened to end my 'learning' sessions early as it was clouding over and camera was losing its sensitivity, then. So, you did not get the 178c Altair any more?

Well, I had to cancel that order but have now purchased another ZWO the ASI174MC
